Servais nahm Unterricht bei Nicolas-Joseph Platel in der K\u00f6niglichen Musikschule in Br\u00fcssel (das sp\u00e4tere Konservatorium) von 1827 bis 1829, dessen Assistent er sp\u00e4ter wurde. Seine bekanntesten Mitsch\u00fcler waren Alexandre Batta (1816-1902) und Fran\u00e7ois de Munck (1815-1853).<\/p>\n

1848 wird Servais Lehrer am Br\u00fcsseler Konservatorium. Bis zu seinem Tod f\u00fchrte er mehr als drei\u00dfig Sch\u00fcler in das virtuose Cellospiel ein.<\/p>\n

Eine seiner talentiertesten Sch\u00fclerinnen war die deutsche Helene De Katow (s. Bild). 1861 holte sie ihren \u201eErsten Preis\u201c. Ab da konzertierte sie in vielen europ\u00e4ischen St\u00e4dten und sogar in New York. Sehr oft spielte sie dabei Werke ihres Lehrmeisters.<\/p>\n

Ein anderer Sch\u00fcler, Ernest de Munck (1840-1915), brachte sp\u00e4ter Servais\u00b4 Opus 1 bis 21 heraus. 1879 heiratete de Munck die S\u00e4ngerin Carlotta Patti, mit der er sich in London niederlie\u00df.<\/p>\n

Jules Deswert (1843-1891) war wahrscheinlich Servais\u00b4 wichtigster Sch\u00fcler am Br\u00fcsseler Konservatorium und einer der besten Cellisten seiner Zeit. Sein Talent brachte ihn nach D\u00fcsseldorf, Weimar, Berlin, Wiesbaden und Leipzig. Er komponierte u. a. drei Celloconcerti und eine gro\u00dfe Anzahl an Kammermusikwerken.<\/p>\n

Andere Studenten von Servais sind\u00a0unter anderem Arved Poorten und Antoine Oudshoorn, Philippe Lamoury, Auguste van Biene und Eliza De Try. Servais gab auch Meisterkurse, u. a. an Daniel de Lange, Victor Mirecki, Franz Neruda.<\/p>\n

Servais unterrichtete auch seinen Sohn, Joseph Servais (1850-1885). 1872 wird Joseph ebenfalls Lehrer. Einer seiner Sch\u00fcler war u. a. Edouard Jacobs (1851-1925). Dieser Hallenser wurde alsbald Assistent und sp\u00e4ter Adjunkt-Lehrer, um von 1885 bis 1920 eine Celloklasse zu leiten.<\/p>\n

Oft f\u00fchrten Servais\u00b4 Sch\u00fcler – und auch andere Musiker – bis zu f\u00fcnfzig Jahren nach seinem Tod seine sehr schweren Kompositionen auf.
